One could say that mount Tzoumerka at the height of 2392 m. really touches the top of the world. At that height the villages Voulgareli, Agnanta, Katarraktis and Melissourgi embrace the mountain. Shelters for the soul, in a proud landscape, crowned with high firs. Nearby, at the ancient road of Philippias, where one can still sense King Pirros steps, the legendary bridge of Arta is “haunting” the landscape. A reverential walk to the temples of Panagia (Virgin Mary) Vlachernon, Panagia Parigoritissa and Saint Dimitrios, gets the visitor closer to God through a live museum of Byzantine art. Another small treasure is waiting at Arachthos river banks to be discovered. It is a habitat of rare fish and bird species. The aquatic world, in the gulf of Amvrakikos, consists of the lagoons of Logarous and Tsoykala. A place created by inspired nature.
Prefecture of Arta is at NW Greece and is one of the four Prefectures of Epirus. Arta, one of the most beautiful corners of Greece, combines both natural beauties of rocky and wild mountains and gentle shoal coasts of Ambrakikos Gulf with the fruitful valley of Arachthos that crosses the Prefecture.
Arta, not only has natural beauty, but has also important history as it is a place that was settled from the ancient years. It is also a place that has inspired Greek traditional music, so the famous Arta Bridge is the theme of one of the best known traditional songs and numerous legends.
The Prefecture expands from the range of the so called “proud” Tzoumerka Mountains to the Ambrakikos Gulf. Two big rivers, Arachthos and Louros cross the northern side of the gulf shaping the most multiform mosaic of Greece. Arta offers to the visitor beautiful nature, imposing mountains, rivers with crystal waters, traditional villages, historical sightseeing of excellent art, as long as one of the most rare ecosystems the Amvrakikos gulf with his soft and shoal coasts, covering thus all the spectrum of tourist preferences.
